I have worked for the NHS for over 25 years and the last 14 years have been with Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare Trust.
I started my career working with children with a range of language and communication difficulties. Communication is central to the way we build relationships, learn, play and flourish. The enormous challenges children with communication impairment face cannot be overstated. It has been my privilege to have worked alongside parents and professionals to support children to overcome these barriers and reach their potential.
The skills I have developed over the years have helped me in my current role leading a team of dedicated occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists. In this role, I recognise team members’ strengths, explore individual challenges and support staff to grow and blossom. Helping staff along this journey is what underpins the purpose of my current role. Only a supported skilled workforce is able to provide an effective quality service and I am proud of each member of my team and the service they provide
I have lived in south west London for the past 20 years so delivering a service for my local community provides a particular resonance. The joint commitment of the therapies team and all of our partners to deliver the best possible service to all the families with whom we work, despite the ever growing pressures, is why I continue to enjoy working in south west London.
I have many proud moments and happy memories that I have gathered over the past 25 years. My proudest moments however are when I receive feedback from parents, children, professionals, and more recently from staff, telling me that I have made a difference and helped them on their way.
