In April 2017 a GP hub opened at Teddington Memorial Hospital, provided by Richmond GP Alliance (RGPA). The GP hub gives Richmond residents extended access to GP appointments from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, at a convenient location. This service was launched to complement the walk-in centre service provision, rather than replace it – and is part of Richmond’s extended primary care strategy.
Whilst Richmond CCG has confirmed that there are currently no plans to replace the walk-in centre, national NHS policy recommends a move away from walk-in centres, directing people to enhanced primary care services or urgent treatment centres where necessary. With this in mind, the CCG is looking at the provision of primary care across the borough.
We are committed to continuing the provision of extended primary care services with the aim of ensuring Richmond residents and the wider community have access to extended primary care services across the borough. This includes extended GP appointments and urgent primary care access for local residents.
As part of a new outcomes based commissioning contract between Richmond CCG, HRCH and RGPA – the three organisations (under the umbrella of Richmond Community Healthcare in Partnership) are working together to establish the best model of extended primary care services for the future. This includes considering how primary and community urgent care services can work together more efficiently to continue to provide extended access to care services.
We will keep you updated as proposals develop – and until such time, the walk-in centre will continue to operate normally alongside the GP hub.
