Richmond pharmacies can help over bank holiday
NHS Richmond Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is reminding local people that a number of pharmacies will be open over the August bank holiday.
This means people can still access healthcare advice and support for common conditions from trained health professionals if their own GP practice is closed.
Dr Graham Lewis, local GP and chair at Richmond CCG, said: "Anyone falling ill over the extended weekend should consider visiting their local pharmacist in the first instance for expert advice on common ailments.
"Pharmacies play an important role as they help reduce pressure on local accident and emergency departments by providing an alternative option for common or minor health concerns, illnesses or injuries.
"You can also call 111 for advice at any time. They will be able to advise you which NHS health service you should choose to get the care you need. Many people spend hours waiting in A&E unnecessarily when they could have been seen quicker elsewhere."
Patients can find details of local NHS services, opening times and out-of-hours services on the NHS Choices website: www.nhs.uk
