GP Online Services available now for everyone in the borough of Richmond
GP practices in the borough of Richmond are now offering new online services for local people.
This will enable patients to book GP appointments, order repeat prescriptions and view aspects of their medical history.
The GP Online Services can be used from a computer, smartphone or tablet and provides another option for people instead of calling or visiting a GP practice.
The new service complements the traditional methods of accessing services; it does not replace them. Therefore, those without a computer or who don't want to join up can still continue to call or visit their GP practice in the usual way.
Another benefit of GP Online Services is it will reduce the need for people to visit their practice in person and free up the phone lines, making it easier for those without a computer to call.
NHS Richmond Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is working closely with local voluntary groups and NHS organisations across the borough to help promote GP Online Services and encourage people to sign up.
Eleanor Brunton, Practice Manager at York Medical Practice on Oak Lane in Twickenham, said: "We are delighted to be offering online services for patients at York Medical Practice and at most GP practices across the borough of Richmond. It gives patients more control over their health and provides a more personal and flexible service.
"We know that many of our patients lead busy lives and may not have time to call and speak to a receptionist. Once registered, the GP Online Services are available for people to access 24-hours a day. We put all our appointments online, which can be booked up to four weeks in advance.
"Change can be daunting for some patients but we want to reassure the local community that we are providing as much support as we can and also emphasise that the online services do not replace other ways of booking an appointment or requesting a prescription, such as over the telephone or visiting the practice."
Patients need to register in person for GP Online Services at their practice.
Online services offered at each GP practice may vary, as might the registration process.
