Have your say on the refreshed carers’ strategy in the borough of Richmond

Richmond Council and Richmond Clinical Commission Group (CCG) are seeking feedback from the borough's carers on the refreshed carers' strategy.

Using the information gathered during a consultation in March 2016, this updated plans runs up to 2019. It sets out the joint vision statement and strategic aims for carers.

The priorities are:

·       Identification and recognition

·       Realising and releasing potential

·       A life outside caring

·       Supporting carers to stay healthy

The strategy sets out issues under each priority and what the Council, the CCG and partners intend to do. Emerging issues are covered such as the impact of, and commitment to, assessments for carers, equitability of access to services and the benefits of emerging technologies are included.

The consultation ends on the 29 July 2016.

Cllr David Marlow, Strategic Cabinet Member for Adult Services and Health said: "Carers play a hugely important role in our communities and it is vital that our strategy reflects their needs and requirements. We gathered some really useful information during March's consultation and now asking carers to let us have their thoughts on our interpretation of those results."

Dr Graham Lewis, local GP and chair of Richmond Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said: "Caring for a relative, friend or partner is a role that many of us will take on at some point in our lives. The number of carers is growing as more people are living longer.

"We therefore encourage as many people as possible to get involved in this consultation as we want this strategy to be as effective as it can be and strongly represent the views of carers."
