As the weather gets wet and cold, Richmond Clinical Commissioning Group is encouraging more local people to make the most of the pharmacy services available in the borough as part of a national initiative "Ask Your Pharmacist".
There are 46 pharmacies in Richmond. Local, convenient and often open 7 days a week, the local pharmacy offers professional medical advice on every-day health issues such as, such as coughs and colds, flu vaccination, backache, stomach upsets and cuts and grazes.
Pharmacists are highly qualified healthcare specialists who can offer expert advice without the need for an appointment or registration. Pharmacists are able to give some medicine without GP prescriptions and those that don't pay prescription charges will still have access to medicine free of charge.
This winter, in addition to your GP surgery, some pharmacists are providing flu vaccinations: Details of which pharmacies are available on www.myhealth.london.nhs. To find out where your nearest pharmacy is located text 'pharmacy' to 64747 for free details or log on to NHS Choices website.
Emma Richmond, Chief Pharmacist, said, "Many pharmacies are open until late in the evenings, seven days a week. Patients can get medical advice, treatment and medicines quickly at their local pharmacy without the need for a GP appointment".
