NHS Richmond Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is calling on local people to get involved and help shape primary care services across the borough.

Primary care is a patient’s first contact with NHS health care services, which is usually a local GP.

We have been meeting with local patient and community groups to hear their views on GP and other primary care services, including pharmacies.

Local people are now being offered the opportunity to share their views on primary care by completing a short online survey which closes on 31 July.

Demands on health services are greater than ever and as a result the way they are delivered needs to change. We expect over time to deliver more care in community settings and less care in hospitals. We need to be providing more and better joined up services outside hospitals – in GP practices, community services and, where appropriate, in people’s homes.

The public’s views will be valuable in helping the CCG make the changes required to meet the expectations and needs of patients, GPs and staff working within general practice.

Dr Graham Lewis, local GP and chair of Richmond CCG, said: “We are continuing to develop and improve services provided outside of hospital in the borough of Richmond to help meet the changing demands and needs of patients, their families and carers.

”In future healthcare professionals need to work much more effectively together and support people to keep well, prevent avoidable hospital admissions and support those coming out of hospital in a joined up way.

“Prevention is a crucial part of the strategy. To help make the NHS sustainable, we all should prioritise our health and wellbeing to reduce the risk of developing lifestyle related health conditions.”
